Personal Profile
I'm an artist trained in education and creative writing. My media concentration is in Fiber Arts, with experience in Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Metalsmithing, and Ceramics. I'm seeking to further my experience and education in the art world while creating my art. My passions lie in plant keeping, costume design, and beach combing.
Traditional media
College is where I was really able to dive into drawing and painting with an array of media and to work more on my observational and hand-eye coordination skills. I have also dabbled in linoleum Printmaking. I aim to gain more experience in all of these mediums as I grow as an artist.
Hand lettering
While working at Trader Joe’s, I have been able to further my calligraphy and hand lettering skills. My previous art experience has helped me in being able to match the handwriting of my colleagues, and fonts of products, design and format different sign sizes, and create both realistic and simplified images of products on the signs using tools I am familiar with.
fiber arts
Working with fibers is my main focus in art. I have experience in fabric and yarn dying, weaving, embroidery, silk painting, silkscreen printing, inlay weaving, weft painting, and shibori. I enjoy finding different and new methods to work with materials.
COSTUME DESIGN
This cloak was inspired by the contemplating the backstory of how Little Red Riding Hood's cloak could have became red, stemming from the idea of stolen innocence and imagined protection. It was handmade by me with raw silk, raw cotton, and wool. It was created over 70+ hours of weaving, felting, and hemming, all by hand. This amulet was also handmade by me via the lost-wax process using silver, as a clasp for the cloak which was inspired by the statue "Boadicea and Her Daughters" by Thomas Thornycroft. The history behind the statue adds more depth to the concept.
Mixed media
I enjoy pushing the boundaries of what I can do by trying new things or combining media in interesting ways. Above, I have layered, cut, and embroidered leaves and lavender together. To the right, I have done Gyotaku (fish print) on paper and fabric, as well as rust dying strips of silk with old nails, then assembled and embellished areas with sewing thread. Collaging is another deep passion.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Photography was something I picked up at a young age and have continued to pursue and enjoy. Subjects range across all things that draw my eye; portraits, landscapes, abstract, macro, etc. I have experience in film photography, but digital is my forte. I also have experience with Adobe applications to edit photos.
